At RISE, we believe that recovery begins with hope, connection, and the opportunity for a fresh start. Yesterday, we celebrated a milestone that reflects all three—our very first graduates of the Living in Balance peer recovery group at the Pike County Jail.
This achievement represents far more than completing a program. It reflects the courage of individuals who made the decision to show up each week, engage in honest conversations, support one another, and invest in their own recovery. Choosing personal growth while navigating incarceration is no small feat, and we are incredibly proud of every graduate who reached this milestone.
Our Peer Recovery Specialists, Chad and Samantha, are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve inside the Pike County Jail. Through sharing their own lived experiences with recovery, they were able to create a space where hope could grow, barriers could be broken down, and meaningful relationships could be formed. While the Living in Balance curriculum provides practical tools for building a healthier future, it is often the connections made along the way that leave the greatest impact.
Our hope is that this program planted seeds of healing, resilience, and possibility. We want each graduate to know that they are not defined by their past. Recovery is a lifelong journey, and when they are ready to take the next step, an entire community is here to support them.
This milestone would not have been possible without the support of dedicated community partners. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Vinny Mayo and Victory Community Church Washington for generously donating pizza to help celebrate our graduates. Your kindness helped make this accomplishment even more meaningful and reminded participants that their success is worth celebrating.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office – Indiana for embracing peer recovery programming within the jail and recognizing the value of providing individuals with opportunities for growth, healing, and positive change. Partnerships like these create pathways to recovery and make second chances possible.
As we celebrate our first Living in Balance graduates in Pike County, we are reminded why this work matters. Every conversation, every class, and every relationship has the potential to change a life. We are honored to have walked alongside these graduates during this chapter of their recovery journey and look forward to seeing the successes that lie ahead.
Recovery is possible. Hope is real. And no one has to walk the journey alone.
