Dubois County IRACS Team Supports Local Law Enforcement Through Crisis Intervention Training

Building a stronger, safer community requires collaboration, education, and a shared commitment to helping individuals during their most challenging moments. This week, the Dubois County IRACS Team was proud to partner with local law enforcement agencies by participating in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) role-play exercises.

Crisis Intervention Training equips law enforcement officers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively to individuals experiencing mental health crises, emotional distress, substance use challenges, or developmental disabilities. While classroom instruction provides the foundation, realistic role-play scenarios allow officers to apply de-escalation techniques, communication strategies, and problem-solving skills in situations they may encounter while serving our communities.

Members of the Dubois County IRACS Team served as role players throughout the training, creating realistic scenarios that challenged officers to assess situations, build rapport, and respond with empathy and professionalism. These exercises provide invaluable experience by allowing participants to practice their skills in a controlled environment while receiving constructive feedback from instructors and behavioral health professionals.

At RISE, we understand that successful crisis intervention begins with strong community partnerships. By working alongside law enforcement, behavioral health providers, and community organizations, we help create opportunities for individuals in crisis to receive the support and resources they need while promoting safer outcomes for everyone involved.

The dedication demonstrated by the officers participating in this training reflects a commitment to continuous learning and to serving the community with compassion and understanding. Their willingness to invest time in developing these specialized skills helps strengthen trust between law enforcement and the communities they protect.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support this important training and thank all of the officers, instructors, volunteers, and community partners who contributed to its success. Together, we are building a community where collaboration, education, and compassion make a lasting difference.

At RISE, our mission extends beyond the services we provide. We are committed to fostering partnerships that improve lives, strengthen community safety, and ensure that individuals experiencing a crisis are met with dignity, respect, and the appropriate support. We look forward to continuing our work with community partners to create healthier, safer communities for everyone.
